Split system air conditioning
For small apartments, single rooms or open spaces, you can’t beat wall-mounted air conditioners.
What makes split system air conditioning great
- Popular – more Australians use split systems than any other air conditioning option
- Affordable – wall-mounted units are cheap to buy and install
- Flexible – add air conditioning to additional rooms over time
- Greater temperature control – separately control temperatures in each room with a remote control for each unit
- Allergy friendly – Ask us about the air-purifying filters on Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric high-wall splits for your air conditioner.
Cost
If you only need a couple of wall-mounted units per dwelling, split system air conditioning systems are very affordable.
Recommended for
Apartment buildings, single rooms, open spaces and homes in which ductwork is an issue.
Split system air conditioning Batemans Bay homes love
A high-wall split system has two parts: a slim indoor unit mounted high on the wall, and an outdoor unit (the condenser) outside. They are joined by insulated refrigerant pipes and a drain line, run neatly through the wall or in covered ducting. The indoor unit draws in room air, filters it, and blows it back out heated or cooled. Because each split system serves its own room, you control each space separately with its own remote, wall controller or phone app.
Heating and cooling in one unit
The high-wall splits we install are reverse-cycle, so the same unit cools on humid summer afternoons and heats on cold winter mornings. Modern inverter split systems adjust their speed to hold the temperature steady instead of switching on and off. That makes them quieter and cheaper to run than older units.
Split system brands we supply and install
We supply and install high-wall split systems from Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic and LG. Each range covers small bedroom units through to large living-area units, with options such as Wi-Fi control, quiet night modes and advanced air filters. We size the unit to the room, allowing for its volume, insulation, windows and which way it faces. An oversized or undersized unit wastes power and never feels quite right.
Split systems built for coastal conditions
On the coast, salt air and humidity attack outdoor units. We position condensers out of direct sea spray where the house allows, keep them clear for good airflow, and mount them on sturdy brackets or pads. Where a manufacturer offers corrosion-resistant coil treatments or coastal-rated options, we’ll tell you about them at the quote. A yearly service, including cleaning the filters and coils and washing down the outdoor unit, helps your split system last longer and run efficiently. Up in Braidwood, we size for heating on the coldest frosty mornings.
Our split system installation process
- Free on-site quote. We look at the room, the wall construction and the best spots for the indoor and outdoor units.
- Written quote. You get the brand, model, capacity and mounting method in writing.
- Installation. We mount the indoor and outdoor units, run the pipework and drain neatly in covers, and handle the refrigerant work with our ARC-licensed team.
- Testing and hand-over. We test heating and cooling, check the drain, show you the remote or app, and clean up.
Our installation workmanship is covered for the same period as the manufacturer’s warranty.
Need more than one room? You can add split systems over time, or ask about multi-head systems that run several indoor units from one outdoor unit. For whole-home comfort, compare ducted air conditioning.

Split system air conditioning FAQs
What size split system do I need?
It depends on the room’s size, ceiling height, insulation, windows and orientation. We work it out at the free quote, so you don’t pay for a unit that’s too big or end up with one that can’t keep up.
Can a split system heat my home in winter?
Yes. Reverse-cycle high-wall splits are an efficient way to heat a room, from coastal winters to frosty Braidwood mornings.
Where should the outdoor unit go?
Somewhere with good airflow, close enough to the indoor unit for a tidy pipe run, out of direct sea spray where possible, and away from bedroom windows to keep noise down. We’ll suggest the best spot on site.
Ducted or split system: which is better?
Splits suit one to three rooms and homes without roof space. Ducted suits whole-home comfort in larger houses. Read our split system vs ducted guide.
How often should a split system be serviced?
Clean the filters every few weeks in heavy use, and book a professional service at least once a year. Coastal homes benefit from regular washing down of the outdoor unit. See air conditioner servicing.
