Commercial Refrigeration Batemans Bay & South Coast

Walk-in cool room with the door open and a ceiling-mounted evaporator inside

When the coolroom stops, the business stops. Southern Aircon & Refrigeration installs, maintains and repairs commercial refrigeration for South Coast businesses, from Ulladulla and Milton through Batemans Bay and Moruya to Narooma, and inland to Braidwood. We’re based at East Lynne, just north of Batemans Bay.

Who we work with

South Coast trade is seasonal. Many businesses do a big share of their year between Christmas and Easter, exactly when hot weather makes refrigeration work hardest. We look after refrigeration for:

  • restaurants, cafés and takeaways
  • pubs, clubs and bowling clubs – coolrooms, bar and bottle fridges
  • bakeries, butchers and delis
  • supermarkets, service stations and bottle shops – display cabinets
  • farms and producers – coolrooms for produce
  • accommodation, caravan parks and caterers

Our commercial refrigeration services

Coolroom and freezer room installation

We design and install coolrooms, freezer rooms and combination cool/freeze rooms sized for your stock, door traffic and the space available. That includes:

  • working out the refrigeration load (what goes in, how often the door opens, the ambient heat in the space)
  • choosing the condensing unit and evaporator, and where they go
  • doors, strip curtains, lighting and temperature controls
  • commissioning and handover

Repairs and breakdowns

Common faults we fix:

  • coolroom not holding temperature or warming up overnight
  • iced-up evaporators and drainage problems
  • noisy or tripping compressors and fans
  • refrigerant leaks
  • faulty thermostats, controllers and door seals
  • display fridges fogging or not reaching temperature

Planned maintenance

Regular maintenance is the cheapest way to avoid losing stock. A typical visit includes:

  • cleaning condenser coils (salt, dust and kitchen grease cut efficiency)
  • checking evaporator, drains and fans
  • checking door seals, hinges and strip curtains
  • checking refrigerant and operating pressures
  • checking and recording temperatures

We recommend a visit before the summer holidays at minimum, and more often for busy kitchens.

Replacements and upgrades

Older systems can be expensive to run and may use refrigerants that are being phased down. We’ll give honest advice on whether to repair or replace, and what an upgrade involves.

Coastal conditions are hard on refrigeration

Condensing units near the coast deal with salt air, and in summer they’re often in hot laneways, on roofs or next to kitchen exhausts. That shortens equipment life and raises running costs. When we install or service we look at:

  • airflow around the condensing unit and heat build-up
  • protection from salt and corrosion
  • easy access for future servicing

Air conditioning and refrigeration from one contractor

Many of our commercial clients also need air conditioning for the dining room, bar, office or shop floor. Because we do both, you can deal with one local team for the coolroom out the back and the commercial air conditioning out the front.

Areas we cover

We provide commercial refrigeration from Huskisson to Bermagui and inland to Braidwood:

Licensing and compliance

Frequently asked questions

How fast can you respond to a coolroom breakdown?
We run a 24/7 breakdown service. Call 0401 317 694 any time.

Can you build a new coolroom for my business?
Yes. We’ll measure up, work out the refrigeration load and give you a free quote for the full job.

How often should a commercial coolroom be serviced?
At least once a year before summer; busy kitchens benefit from more frequent visits.

My coolroom is iced up. What should I do?
Check the door is sealing and closing properly and that nothing is blocking the evaporator. If ice keeps building up, call us. Don’t chip it off, as that can damage the coil.

Do you work on display fridges and bar fridges?
Yes, along with upright and under-bench fridges and freezers.
